WP: Bird LP:
Greg Thompson
Game 1 of the weekend against Dawson was a game of missed
opportunities. The Jacks were able to get a few guys on base but couldn’t
string together hits at the right time. The score was actually close until a 3
run HR in the 5th inning allowed Dawson to win by the mercy rule.
Defensively for the Jacks, Greg Thompson pitched well and the defense was dramatically
improved from our last game in Tucson with only one error.

Game 2 was a game of what could have been for the Jacks.
After getting beat by ten in game one the Jacks came back in a big way jumping
out early in the game scoring 5 runs in 4 innings. However, we were not able to
keep our foot on the gas and finish the game scoring. Dawson had a steady
attack and eventually outscored the Jacks. It was a tough loss for the Jacks
because Brett Hebel pitched so well and the defense was outstanding again. We
showed flashes of really great baseball in this game.

Game 3 was one of those games that you would like to forget
for the Jacks. The game started with two walks followed by a home run by
Dawson. From there it pretty much stayed the same as it seemed Dawson could not
miss the ball and the Jacks couldn’t solve Dawson’s pitcher. It wasn’t until
the top of the fourth before Jesse Turner finally got a hit breaking up Austin’s
no hit bid. Again the Jacks played well defensively but it is awful hard to win
without runners on base and hits.

WP: Mercer LP: Cody Newberry
Game 4 on the weekend was a game that the Jacks had an
opportunity to win. We came out of the gate clicking on all cylinders with
hits, runs, and the best defense we have played all year. The way we played for
the first three innings I believe we could have beaten most teams. However, we
had out number three in our hands in the fourth inning but dropped the ball.
When you make errors that give a good team second life it leads to bad things
which in this case was 6 runs. As a coach I was happy with the way we played
this game and as we now will get to practice outside hopefully we can make one
error at most in a game.
Overall, I was impressed with how WE battled throughout the
weekend. WE definitely had our highs and our lows, but when WE were beaten by
ten in two games WE could have easily folded the tents and lost all games by
huge margins. However, this TEAM will not quit and WE showed that giving Dawson
two really tough games. It is disappointing but WE believe WE are moving in the
right direction. For all of our fans, friends, and family please be patient
because WE are on the cusp of playing really solid baseball. WE will start to
get the scoreboard to fall in our favor, but our first step was to become competitive again and I believe
WE are! Next weekend the Jacks are headed back to Montana to take on Miles
City. After that WE will be headed to Mayville on Monday the 14th to
take on Mayville State JV.
Thank you and GO JACKS!
Coach Martin
