Game 1 on the weekend against BSC the Jacks came out strong defensively lead by Greg Thompson's pitching. However, the  Jacks couldn't seem to get the bats going as we hit a lot of balls right at people. This game was frustrating because we had opportunities but couldn't cash in made clear by 8 runners left on base.

Game 2 the Jacks came out strong offensively as walks and a few timely hits allowed the Jacks to score 3 in the first 2 innings. However, we could not hold the Mystics off the scoreboard and they had a steady attack. In the 7th the Jacks attempted to mount a comeback as Greg Thompson hit a pinch hit 2 run home run. But the Mystics were able to get out of the inning to end the game.

Game 3 the Jacks were lead by a solid pitching performance by Brett Hebel. However, 4 errors is far too many to make and expect much success. Compounded by 6 hits with 7 runners left on base the Jacks just couldn't string things together at the right time. In the bottom of the 5th the score was 2-2, but being unable to get out of the inning allowed BSC to score 4 which blew the game wide open.

Game 4 the Jacks played excellent defense and Cody Newberry had a great performance on the mound. However, it doesn't matter how well we play defensively, if we don't score runs we will not win. This game was very frustrating as it seemed we hit the ball right at people all game.

Overall, this weekend was a weekend of what could have been for your Jacks. There were flashes of great defense but if WE don't score runs WE will not win. As WE move forward the main focus is to continue to play solid defense but hit the ball. If WE can put it together offensively Coach Berube and I believe WE will be a pretty solid team. When WE started out our goal was to be competitive and after our rough weekend in Miles City WE found our competitive edge again. Now it is time that WE put it all together to start finishing on the right side of the scoreboard.

After road games for over a month the Jacks will finally play at home next weekend against Williston State. Please join us at the Lumberyard at 1:00 on the 26th and 27th for our home opener.

Thank you and Go JACKS,

Coach Martin

Game 1 on the weekend was another frustrating game for the Jacks at the plate. Miles City is a good team, but the Jacks did not help themselves at the plate. Defensively we played well, but when there are few base runners and only two hits it is hard to be successful.

Game 2 the Jacks could not catch a break as the Pioneers scored 11 runs in the first. We only committed one error, but that error lead to three runs. This is what happens when you play a good team, make errors, and walk batters. This game was one that we need to put behind us and use it as a learning experience.

Game 3 was the beginning of moving in the right direction for the Jacks. Again Miles City came out strong but we limited their runs compared to the previous two games. Also, during this game we finally broke onto the scoreboard. Brett Hebel pitched well and kept us in the game, but if we want to be successful we need to hit more and score more runs.

Game 4 was the Jacks best opportunity to come out on top. We started out well holding the Pioneers to 4 runs through 3 innings and had a few opportunities with base runners.  Then in inning four we were unable to get out of the inning with a few ground balls and when you give a good team second life they almost always make you pay. They did scoring 10 runs when it should have only been 1.

Overall, it is hard to look at this past weekend and point out the good. Putting it simply, we need to get better at batting and move some runners around. If we don’t score winning is virtually impossible. Defensively we have improved dramatically since we began, but if we want to finish games on the right side of the scoreboard we need to put runs up. This weekend the Jacks will be taking on Bismarck State as we hope to play a complete game both offensively and defensively.

Thank you and GO JACKS!

Coach Martin
