Game 1 on the weekend was another frustrating game for the Jacks at the plate. Miles City is a good team, but the Jacks did not help themselves at the plate. Defensively we played well, but when there are few base runners and only two hits it is hard to be successful.

Game 2 the Jacks could not catch a break as the Pioneers scored 11 runs in the first. We only committed one error, but that error lead to three runs. This is what happens when you play a good team, make errors, and walk batters. This game was one that we need to put behind us and use it as a learning experience.

Game 3 was the beginning of moving in the right direction for the Jacks. Again Miles City came out strong but we limited their runs compared to the previous two games. Also, during this game we finally broke onto the scoreboard. Brett Hebel pitched well and kept us in the game, but if we want to be successful we need to hit more and score more runs.

Game 4 was the Jacks best opportunity to come out on top. We started out well holding the Pioneers to 4 runs through 3 innings and had a few opportunities with base runners.  Then in inning four we were unable to get out of the inning with a few ground balls and when you give a good team second life they almost always make you pay. They did scoring 10 runs when it should have only been 1.

Overall, it is hard to look at this past weekend and point out the good. Putting it simply, we need to get better at batting and move some runners around. If we don’t score winning is virtually impossible. Defensively we have improved dramatically since we began, but if we want to finish games on the right side of the scoreboard we need to put runs up. This weekend the Jacks will be taking on Bismarck State as we hope to play a complete game both offensively and defensively.

Thank you and GO JACKS!

Coach Martin
