Game 6 in Arizona had your Lumberjacks taking on Carroll College JV. Yet again the fatal flaw for the Jacks was not getting out of innings. We had a lot of mistakes in the field that allowed them to put more runners on and sooner or later somebody will hit one in the gap and that happened a few times this game.

Overall, upon returning from Arizona Coach Berube and I are excited about the season to come. Yes, we dropped all 6 games and that is never good but I told the TEAM that they can’t get too down on themselves because this was a learning experience. As WE head into our regular season WE know that WE are in a position to improve and compete in our region. I know that 0-6 is not what everyone wants but WE ask that everyone stay patient because WE will turn this program around but like all great things it will take some time.

Thank you and GO JACKS!

Game 1 today was a good game in most regards for your Lumberjacks. WE played our best defensive game thus far and hit the ball well. WE even saw our first home run of the season as Alphonzo Rigby hit a two run shot in the third inning. However, the tale of this game is again about not getting out of innings and walking batters. When we play like we did in this game the only thing that can beat us is ourselves and unfortunately that was the case in this game.

                             Rigby 2-3

Game 2 was a rematch with Marian JV who dismantled the Jacks earlier this week 22-2. Today WE put forth a much better effort against Marian. In an effort to slow their great offense WE put our ace on the hill and Greg Thompson did not disappoint with 6 strikeouts in 3 innings of work. Unfortunately WE could not make the plays WE needed to keep them off the scoreboard. As the box score shows, WE hit well and had a lot of opportunities with men left on base. Overall, WE showed great improvement from our first matchup.

The Jacks will play their 6th game tomorrow against Carroll College JV. Despite the setbacks on the scoreboard Coach Berube and I are impressed with how far our TEAM is coming on the field. As WE move into our last game here in AZ and head home, WE look to continue to improve every day. Although the scoreboard has not gone in our favor yet, WE have never once told our TEAM the expectation is victories right now. WE tell our TEAM to do the little things right and the scoreboard will take care of itself. WE know that WE will turn this program around, but like all great things in life it will take time.

Thank you and GO JACKS!

In game one WE played hard but had a few too many mistakes. The biggest problem in this game was WE couldn’t find a hole in the defense. Overall, as a TEAM, WE showed improvement on defense, which was great to see.

Game two was not such a good game for the Jacks. It started off rough as WE gave up 5 runs in the first two innings with a slew of errors. However, WE always try to find good in every situation. For myself and Coach Berube, WE were happy that although nothing went right WE went down swinging.

At 0-3 it is easy to look at the negative but from a coach’s vantage point, our team is starting to gel together well. Yes, WE have had our setbacks but WE still BELIEVE that WE are moving in the right direction. Each game WE have shown flashes of great baseball so the next step is to eliminate errors and not give them runs. On Monday, the Jacks are back in action as WE take on UW-Superior JV and Marian JV a second time.

Thank you and GO JACKS!

Today WE played very well for it being our first time on a field since September. As you can see from the box score, the story is more about the opportunities missed than those WE capitalized on. However, despite the errors and runners left on base, as a coach, I was proud of the way be battled all the way to the end. When WE went into the last inning down by 3 we had a TEAM meeting and it was clear that I was looking at a group of young men who BELIEVE. A 0-1 start is not the goal but all things considered, it is clear WE are moving in the right direction.

Tomorrow WE have two games against Mount Marty JV and Marian University JV. Thank you for all of your support and please keep following us as WE continue to battle to bring you the product you deserve.

Thank you,

Coach Martin
